Last Friday, August 28th, Seon hosted our annual BBQ Fundraiser, Halfway to Pink Shirt Day. For the second year in a row our employees and the Coquitlam community gathered funds that will help create a safer environment for kids across the country. All money raised will be donated immediately to CKNW Orphans’ Fund Pink Shirt Day, a Canadian organization supporting anti-bullying initiatives that directly help youth in need.
United Against Bullying
This year’s BBQ was held as a part of the United Against Bullying program, launched by Safe Fleet and its subsidiaries including Seon in July 2015. The goal of this campaign is to offer school communities tools, resources, and funding to support their best initiatives to stop bullying and empower young people to stand up against abusive behavior.
We invited our Burbidge Street neighbors to celebrate the launch of the program and purchase a BBQ lunch. Even though the weather was rainy and grey, members of our business park community joined us under the tents to support the cause.
When our official anti-bullying mascot Buddy the Seon Safety Bear appeared at the BBQ, both kids and adults gathered to take pictures. The day was filled with music, smiles, and inspiring conversations around some good food.
During the event all Seon employees were wearing pink – a symbolic color that inspires young people and adults across the nation to stand up against bullying.
Funds for the Change
On behalf of the Seon team, we would like to thank everyone who came to support our program and made donations. We strongly believe that every small action contributes to a big change in our society that will be safer without bullying.
As a result of the event, Seon raised over $800 from the sale of 50/50 and lunch tickets, as well as donations from our staff and community. These funds will be given to Pink Shirt Day to be distributed to anti-bullying organizations that help support children’s healthy self-esteem, and teach empathy and kindness. Among them: Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC, Canadian Red Cross of BC, Kids Help Phone, Kidsafe Project Society, Leave out Violence Society (LOVE BC), and YWCA Metro Vancouver, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, and others.
