It’s with sadness and sorrow in our hearts that we write this blog post: two weeks ago we lost a great customer and friend from Halifax Metro Transit, Doug Mosher. Doug passed away after a long battle with cancer on January 23, 2016. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Gina, his daughters, extended family, and all transit community.
Doug lived and breathed Transit. For over 37 years that he spent in Metro Transit, he was actively involved in numerous development projects, industry initiatives and he always cared about his team. Being an active person, Doug enjoyed water sports and hockey games. He worked hard, lived with enthusiasm, and always had time for people around him and his family, offering advice if asked.
Doug was a great supporter of Seon’s Stop Violence Against Drivers campaign. He actively participated in discussions about transit safety and the development of materials to help protect operators from assaults. He shared his opinion in case study for transit agencies and helped us create a visual guide/reminder for transit operators on how to prevent conflict on the bus.
Doug was a strong person who loved life and inspired others to do the same. We will always remember his bright personality, optimism, and commitment to any project he was involved in. Doug, we will miss you.
About Doug:
Mike Bismeyer, Transit Manager, Seon
“Doug was a pleasure to know, from the first time I met him. You quickly realize his passion for transit and passion to do right. He was a loyal supporter of the industry and all partners he dealt with day to day. Never afraid to share his opinion, but always a pleasure to hear the story wrapped around that opinion.
Doug was one of those people that you connected with in life that left a lasting impression. He will be sorely missed, his legacy not forgotten and impact realized daily both in Transit and those who knew him. My thoughts are with his family and co-workers.”
Lori Jetha, Marketing Manager, Seon
“Doug was a rare breed who brought passion and commitment to everything he touched while maintaining a fine balance between family, work, and community. He seized every opportunity to make the world a safer place. He’ll be missed and fondly remembered.”
Tia o’Grady, Marketing and Communications Officer, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
“The world lost a good man. What I respected and will remember most about Doug were the stories he shared with me about his goal for the transit buses in his city to be safe havens for passengers – if people felt unsafe on the street, they could jump on a bus and be provided with instant protection. He truly cared about the Halifax community and took pride in his job. Doug will be missed.”
