In October of 2014, thousands of students participated in Seon’s annual coloring contest, first launched in 2013 to promote anti-bullying awareness and education.  One special needs student program in Georgia participated in the contest in a way that was truly inspiring.  We caught up with Gary Mullis, Director of Services at the Cedarwood Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS) to hear his story. 5 Lessons Learned: Using Cameras to Capture School Bus Stop-arm Violations

Over 24 states have now introduced or have pending laws authorizing the use of video cameras on the outside of school buses to identify stop-arm violators. But rolling out a stop-arm camera program can be tricky and time-consuming. So we thought we’d share five lessons we’ve learned from working with school districts over the past five years to test and perfect the technology to help them take advantage of these new laws. According to the National Transit Database, assaults against transit operators have increased by 31% over the past six years.  Driver assaults not only take a physical and emotional toll on the individual, but they can have a lasting financial impact on the transit system in terms of absenteeism, medical claims, and lawsuits. Although on-board technologies such as video surveillance and GPS fleet tracking can help deter crime and prevent operator assaults, more needs to be done to focus public awareness on the issue and encourage legislators to take a tougher stance on penalizing this type of violence.
